Abstract
1,215,114. Non contact making switches. FERRANTI Ltd. 29 May, 1969 [4 June, 1968], No. 27139/69. Heading H3B. In an electrical switching device, series connected and opposed windings 18A, 18B, Fig. 2, are located between ferromagnetic members 10 in an air-gap in which a coil 14, Fig. 1, carrying an alternating current and wound on a ferromagnetic member 12, produces a varying magnetic flux, a resulting output being produced across the windings 18A, 18B when a movable ferromagnetic core 24 is inserted into winding 18A. The core is biased away from the windings by a spring 26, and has an end stop 29. A recess may be provided in the lower member 10 to accommodate the core end in its lower position. Any alternating or pulsed waveform may be used in coil 14. The core may pass through a number of windings, for example three in Fig. 5, which represent the three binary digits of the decimal number 7. Numeral 7 is marked on the upper face of core end piece 28 so that the device may be used as a decimal to binary converter. Fixed cores may be used in some of the windings.
