[Also in Divisions B6 and E2] An hydraulic press includes a cover 8 hingedly mounted on the press frame 1 for pivotal movement towards and away from a closed operative position, a support plate 6 carried by said cover, a flexible membrane 3 arranged to be urged under fluid pressure towards said support plate when the cover is in said closed operative position for exerting pressure on a member when located between said support plate and membrane, a first linkage system 23 and 25 controllable by first cam means 18a and 24 to effect said pivotal movement of the cover and a second linkage system 26 and 28 controllable by second cam means 19a and 27 to operate a locking bayonet 31 carried at one end of a cranked spindle 29 and arranged to engage and releasably secure said cover in said closed operative position, said second linkage being arranged to pivot said cranked spindle about the longitudinal axis thereof in alternative directions thereby to rotate said looking bayonet and hence release or secure said cover. The press may be used for laminating thermoplastic foil to paper, cardboard or cloth which may be in the form of archive materials, drawings or charts.
