Abstract
Phosphoric acid alkyl amides are obtained by reacting a primary or secondary fatty alkyl amine having 8 to 22 carbon atoms in the molecule in the absence of a diluent or solvent with phosphorus pentoxide in a mol. ratio of 2:1 to 4:1 at a temperature of 60-220 DEG C. until a limpid melt is obtained. The reaction mixture may be stirred for a further period after the main reaction has ended or the product may be further reacted with ammonia or an amine to form a phosphoric acid alkyl mono- or di-amide and if this compound is heated at high temperatures an imide may be formed between two phosphorus atoms.
