Abstract

[Also in Divsion B6] In a machine installation in which a number of self-contained machine units, e.g. in boxmaking machines, are mounted on longitudinal guide tracks 1, 1a along which the units can be moved into and out of abutting relationship, and transverse tracks are provided whereby a unit can be moved out of line to an inoperative position, the parts 2, 2a of the transverse tracks lying between the tracks 1, 1a or elements thereof, can be operated to engage wheels on a unit and raise the unit so as to allow it to be moved over and laterally of the track 1a. As shown, the central portions 4 of the track parts 2, are fixed and on a level with the parts 3, 3a of the tracks which lie mainly outside the tracks 1, 1a, the level being such that when the wheels on the base of a unit ride on the parts 3, 3a, 4, the wheels can pass over the track 1a. The end portions 5, 6 of the track parts 2, 2a slope downwardly and are pivoted to the parts 4 so that normally they are below and vertically-spaced from the wheels. By operation of an hydraulic jack all parts 5, 6 can be simultaneously pivoted upwardly to a horizontal position level with parts 4 so as to engage the wheels and raise the unit which can then be moved on to the track parts 3, 3a by known means forming part of the machine unit or by a winch and hawser. More than two transverse tracks may be provided in each set of such tracks for use with machine units with differently-spaced wheels.
