Abstract

1, 103, 960. Compressors. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Sept. 22, 1966 [Sept. 27, 1965], No. 41016/65. Heading F1N. In a compressor having a diaphragm 19 reciprocated by pulsating liquid in a chamber 18 to discharge gas through an outlet valve 27 into a reservoir 26, a relief valve 10 for limiting the pressure across the diaphragm is provided which is responsive to the differential pressure between the reservoir 26 and the chamber 18. The valve 10 comprises a needle 11 having at one end a head 16 subjected through a port h to the pressure in chamber 18 and a shoulder 12 at the other end subjected to the reservoir pressure. When the pressure differential is above a predetermined value determined by the areas of the port h and shoulder 12, the pressure in the chamber 18 is relieved to an auxiliary chamber 23 connected through a non-return valve 24 with the chamber 18.
