Abstract

1,103,732. Selective printers. HONEYWELL Inc. 31 March, 1965 [11 June, 1964], No. 13732/65. Heading B6F. A high-speed selective printer having a continuously rotating type carrier 12 with alphanumerical characters 14 disposed along the circumferential periphery and a plurality of like characters extending along a printing line opposite impression hammers 10, is provided with an electromagnetic assembly 44, which is energized during line spacing of a record web (not shown) to prevent the rebound of actuated hammers. Each hammer 10 comprises a forward section 16 and a rear section 18 joined by a shank 20, the forward section terminating in an arcuate surface 22. The hammer is supported on leaf springs 30 which bias the hammer to rest against an actuating arm 26, which is operated by an electromagnet 36 to impel the hammer for impression. To prevent rebound the electromagnet 44 is arranged over the hammers 10 in such a manner that cores 46, 48 thereof are disposed over the sections 16, 18, respectively, to provide a minimum magnetic flux path, so that on energization of the magnet 44 oscillations of the hammers are quickly damped out. In another embodiment (Fig. 2A) the electromagnet 44 is replaced by a toroid shaped magnet whose cores co-operate with adjacent surfaces on projections mounted on the forward sections 16 of the hammers.
