Abstract
1,103,642. Screw-and-nut gearing. JFD ELECTRONICS CORPORATION. 1 July, 1966, No. 29723/66. Heading F2Q. [Also in Divisions H1 and H3] Anti-backlash screw-and-nut gearing for a radio tuner (see Division H3) comprises a rod 50 carrying a spiral groove 75 of rectangular profile co-operating with two nuts 77, 78, urged apart by a metal bellows 79. The nut 77 is screwed into a plate 70 which is thereby moved axially when the rod 50 is rotated. Each nut has a radial through-bore 80 in one side of which is inserted a pin 81. The inner ends of these pins are tapered and carry the inner members 82a of ball-races. The spring bellows 79 therefore urges the outer members 82b of the ball-races into contact with the threads 75 to prevent any axial movement of the nuts without rotation of the rod 50. In a modification (Fig. 11, not shown), the pins are smaller than the bores and ball-races are provided between the pins and the nuts 77. The inner ends of the pins are in this case wider than the outer parts, to be a loose fit in the spiral thread on the nut 50.
