Abstract

1,066,227. Screw-and-nut gearing. BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORPORATION (OPERATING) Ltd. July 6, 1965 [July 9, 1964]. No. 28414/64. Heading F2Q. The nut of a recirculating ball screw-andnut assembly has two parts 10, 11 whose coneshaped ends 14, 15 are axially forced apart by a contracting wedge-sectioned C-spring 16 to take up backlash and wear. The spring 16 may have transverse kerfs and is held in a trunnion 20 by a split ring 18 engaging a peripheral slot 17 of the spring 16 and held in the trunnion 20 by a threaded ring 21. The nut parts 10, 11 and the trunnion 20 are located peripherally by a pin 22. A spade-shaped tool may be journalled in the trunnion 20 and engaged between the ends of the spring 16 for expanding the same from outside the trunnion during assembly of the nut and screw. The spring 16 may be formed by wedge-shaped segments urged inwards by a circumferential coil spring. The nut may be used with a normal screw.
