Abstract

1,103,535. Making resistors. WELWYN ELECTRIC Ltd. 24 June, 1966, No. 28486/66. Heading B3A. [Also in Division H1] A thin metal sheet or strip 22 is stamped or cut with a pattern and adhesively mounted on a flexible insulating backing, then individual resistance elements are stamped from the combination. In making these the sheet and backing are cut with such an outline that in each the edge of the resistance element and the existing pattern interact to form a long zig-zag resistance path. The backing may be, for example, a mica-filled silica-bonded glass fibre tape with a thermoplastic sheet on one side to bond it to the metal strip, or may be a self-adhesive tape. The resistance elements so formed may have terminals 26, 27, stamped with them from strips 20, 21 attached to the resistance material at the same time as the backing. They may be incorporated in metal cases lined with insulating material to form complete resistors. Resistors of this construction, with resistance values below 10 ohms, are stated to be usable in the automobile industry.
