Abstract
1,103,433. Laminates; moulding decorative trays. PRESSWERK KOENGEN G.m.b.H. 22 Feb., 1965 [21 Feb., 1964], No. 7511/65. Headings B5N and B5A. [Also in Division A4] A mettod of making a sheet article with an integral raised rim comprises applying an outer layer which is impregnated with a condensation resin and is a highly absorptive web, skin, hide, fleece, foil or fibrous lamination on which matter has been printed by an offset process to at least one face of an initially flat base which is built up of several laminations, and moulding the base and the or each outer layer under pressure and heat to form the sheet article with an integral raised rim into which a border of the offset printed matter extends. The specified base material comprises a plurality of wood laminations with melamine aldehyde foils therebetween. The specified impregnant is a melamine-aldehyde resin. Fig. 3 shows a section of a part of the wall of a tray where the upper outer layer 2 comprises an impregnated paper lamination 5, a highly absorptive layer as defined above 6 and an impregnated paper overlay 7, 5a, 6a and 7a of which 6a is decorated, forming the lower outer layer, 4 represent the wood laminations.
