Abstract

1,103,278. Paper-making apparatus. FELDMUHLE A.G. 8 Feb., 1965 [7 Feb., 1964], No. 5430/65. Heading D2A. A suction tube for cleaning and opening the pores of wet felts in paper-making machines has the felt contacting portions 4 composed of a ceramic sintered material having a hardness of at least 7 on Moh's scale and divided across the width of the felt into a multiplicity of separate sections. The sections may be secured to cast iron housing 1 by adhesivefor example an epoxy resin-, and/or by clamping means or screws as in Specifications 1,103,251, and 1,104,981 respectively. The tube has end portions comprising a covering 8 of ceramic sintered material and a bronze portion 7 adjustably positioned. The sintered material, which may be separated from the supporting member 1 by an intermediate layer of rubber, cork, leather, or packing paper, is formed of oxides or carbides-for example aluminium oxide or silicon carbide-which have been sintered at a temperature above 1000‹C.
