Abstract
1,103,081. Filling aerosols. SPRAYON PRODUCTS Inc. 27 Jan., 1965 [27 Jan., 1964], No. 720/65. Heading B8T. [Also in Division F1] In a method and apparatus for charging an aerosol dispensing container, the container is charged during manufacture with a liquefied propellant and at least a portion of at least one of the constituents of the material to be dispensed, e.g. a hydrocarbon propellant and a paint solvent; the balance of the constituents of the material to be dispensed, e.g. paint, insecticide, lubricant, medicine or cosmetics, are subsequently injected into the container through its discharge valve by the user of the container or a dealer. Apparatus for injecting liquid into the container 10 comprises a stand 28 removably supporting container 10, and a pump assembly 35 located by clamping levers 40. The pump cylinder 49 and a reservoir 46 are formed as part of a disposable lining 45 located in assembly 35 by a cover 62 secured by bayonet means 63. Lining 45 has an internally beaded outlet 52 for sealingly engaging the valve body 20 of container 10. A piston 60 is manually reciprocated by lever 68 to inject the contents of reservoir 46 into container 10. Lining 45 is translucent, e.g. of polythene, a graduated window in casing 42 permitting viewing of the reservoir contents. Piston 60 either may be cleaned after each operation, or may be fitted with a disposable sleeve, which is replaced, together with lining 45, when a different liquid is to be injected. Piston 60 is coupled to lever 68 by a pin 72 co-operating with keyways such that it can only be removed when the piston is in its uppermost position.
