Abstract

1,102,635. Sterilizing packaging material. TETRA PAK A.B. 4 Aug., 1966 [10 Aug., 1965], No. 34993/66. Heading A5G. [Also in Division D1] Apparatus for sterilizing webs of packaging material, comprises an outer container 1 for the sterilizing liquid, and an inner filling member 2, of essentially the same shape as the container 1, the member 2 being placed inside the container 1 to displace the liquid therein and to form a slot-shaped passage for the material to be treated. A pulley 4 is preferably provided at the top of the container 1 and a pulley 6 at the bottom of the member 2, whereby the material is guided into and through the slot-shaped passage. The container (1) and member (2) are relatively displaceable. Fig. 2 (not shown), for ease of operation of the apparatus. The member 2 is preferably filled with liquid, e.g. water or oil, and preferably also contains a heating coil 9. In use, hydrogen peroxide is placed in the container 1 and the material guided therethrough. An inlet member 11 is preferably provided on the packaging machine 10, which member is immersed in the processing liquid to form a liquid lock.
