Abstract
1,102,588. Freezing liquids. NESTLE'S PRODUCTS Ltd. 23 March, 1966 [2 April, 1965], No. 30520/67. Divided out of 1,102,587. Heading F4H. An apparatus, used for freezing a foamed coffee extract for subsequent freeze drying in the process of the parent Specification, comprises, in combination, a closed chamber capable of being maintained at a temperature which is substantially below the melting temperature of the said frozen foam and, disposed within said chamber, a movable endless belt, means for moving said belt at a low speed, a spreading device for distributing coffee extract foam on said belt and refrigerating means for cooling at least one surface of said belt with a liquid refrigerant. Preferably, the belt comprises two sections which are cooled by spraying the underside of the belt with a refrigerant such as ethylene glycol solution, in the first section at a temperature of -12‹ to - 29‹ C. and in the second section at - 40‹ to - 70‹ C. The chamber temperature is maintained at between - 15‹ and - 45‹ C.
