Abstract

1429460 Evaporators M K SIDORENKO J I CHERKASHIN and N N LOPATIN 17 Dec 1974 [17 Dec 1973] 54437/74 Heading F4H A freezing chamber 3 of a refrigerator is located in an upper portion of a cooling chamber 2 and is formed of a rectangular evaporator shell and a layer 8 of thermally insulating material. The evaporator includes a top wall 4, a bottom wall 5 and two side walls 6 with a slot 7 at the junction between each pair of adjacent walls. As shown in Fig. 3, the slot 7 may be L-shaped. The heat insulating layer 8 includes portions adjacent the internal surfaces of the side walls 6 and the external surfaces of the top and bottom walls 4, 5, the portions being interconnected through each of the slots. If the slot is L-shaped, the layer 8 is disposed against the external surface of the side wall 6 in the portion of the side wall between the limb of the slot and the rear of the chamber 3. Upon operation of the refrigeration system, cold air streams are set up on either side of the freezing chamber 3 by the evaporator side walls 6, thus cooling food &c. in the chamber 2. The top and bottom walls 4, 5 are disposed in the freezing chamber 3, with apertures 9 in the top wall 4 being used to create an air flow. Moisture collection trays 10 are provided adjacent the bases of the side walls 6.
