Abstract

110,257. White, A. E., (Toledo Scale Co.). Jan. 19, 1917 Indicating-mechanism.-Relates to a weighing scale having a pair of pointers for indicating net, gross, and tare weights, and comprises means for locking one pointer in its indicating position whilst permitting of relative adjustment of the other pointer. The indicating spindle 22, Fig. 2, is actuated by any suitable weighing mechanism such as the rolling-segment mechanism 9, 16 shown in Fig. 1; this mechanism being of the type described in Specification 15724/13. Secured to the front end of the spindle is a pointer 27 and a shaft 32. On the shaft 32 is a sliding sleeve 37 carrying a second pointer 36 and urged by a spring 41 into frictional engagement with a disk 35 on the shaft 32. The operator by grasping a knob 40 is thus able to disconnect the pointer 36 from the shaft 22 and adjust the pointer 36 relatively to the pointer 27. Near the zero point of the graduated dial 23 is an electro-magnet 47 arranged in circuit with a magnetic brake 43, batteries 52, and a press button 53. In using the apparatus, the empty box or other container is placed upon the weighing platform, thus causing the two pointers to move over the dial. The operator then presses the push-button 53. thereby energizing the electro-magnet 47 and also causing the magnetic brake 43 to engage frictionally with a disk 42 on the indicating spindle 22 and hold the pointer 27. The operator now adjusts the pointer 36 to the zero position, the attraction of the electro-magnet 47 automatically assisting the exact adjustment. The commodity is placed in the box and the pointers again rotate, the net weight being indicated by the pointer 36, the gross weight by the pointer 27, and the tare by the difference between the two indications. In a. modification, a second series of graduations are arranged inside the series 23, but in the reverse direction, so that the pointer 36 may be set behind the zero by an amount equal to the tare, the pointer being capable of reading in connexion with both series of graduations. The push-button 23 may be arranged on the end of a swivelling arm so as to be brought into any convenient position for the operator.
