Abstract

128,104. White, A. E., (Toledo Scale Co.). Oct. 17, 1918. lndicating-mechanism.-Relates to a weighing- scale having pointers for indicating net, gross, and tare weights, as described in Specification 110,257. Devices actuated by slidable cams are provided for locking one or more of the pointers and moving the other pointer or pointers relatively thereto. The indicating-spindle 22, Figs. 1 and 3, isactuated by any suitable weighing-mechanism such as the rolling-segment mechanism 9, 16, and carries at its front end a fixed pointer 27, the hub 26 of which has a flange 30 normally engaged by the flange 32 of the hub 33 of the adjustable pointer 34. A spider 40 keyed to the shaft 22 has studs 39 engaging apertures in a disk 38 which is forced against a cupped friction disk 37 on the hub 33 by springs 41 surrounding the studs 39. When a lever 43 is tripped by the engagement of the inclined end 47, Fig. 2, of a slidable rod 46 with the arm 45, its bifurcated upper arm 42 disengages the disk 38 from the disk 37 and holds the spindle 22 and pointer 27 fixed. For rotating the pointer 34 while the pointer 27 is locked, a heart-shaped cam 36 on the hub 33 is engaged by a roller 49 carried by a lever 50 operated through a vertical rod 52 from a bell-crank lever 57. The arm 56 of the lever 57 is engaged by the inclined face 58, Fig. 2, of a slidable cam 59 loosely mounted between stops 60, 61 on a rod 62 which is preferably connected, as by a cross-bar 63, with the rod 46. A bar 65 connected to the bar 63 is provided with an operating-knob 64. A light spring 67 connects the arms 45<a>, 57a of the levers 45, 57 respectively. The pointer 34 points to zero when the roller 49 is in engagement with the centre part of the recess of the cam 36. In using the apparatus, the empty container is placed upon the weighing-platform, and the knob 64 is then pushed inwardly to lock the pointer 27 in position to show the tare and to return the other pointer to zero. After pulling the knob 64 outwardly, the material to be weighed is placed in the container, and the net or gross weights are shown by the pointers 34, 27 respectively. The weighing of articles can be continued without removing the articles already on the platform, the pointer 34 giving the weight of the article last placed on the platform and the pointer 27 the total weight on the platform. Specification 135,242 also is referred to.
