Abstract

1,102,579. Latch fastenings. D. J. WILSON, N. F. PITT and R. GILL [trading as VILOSPORT MANUFACTURING CO.] 11, May, 1965 [15, May, 1964], No. 20257/64. Headings E2A and E2B. An operating mechanism for a vehicle door latch having an angularly moveable operating shank, comprises a lever handle part 5 adapted for pivotal mounting on a vehicle door, a lug part 22 adapted for engagement with the shank, a rigid link 27 pivotally connected to the lever handle part and to the lug part to permit corresponding angular movement of the part, one of the link pivotal connections being constituted by the engagement of a hook end 29 of the link through a hole in one of the parts, the hole lying generally parallel to the longitudinal axis of the link and a helical thrust spring 30 mounted on the link to urge the hole containing part into engagement with the hook end. In the construction shown, the hole is in the lug. The lug 22 is a metal strip bent to channel shape, one side 23 projecting beyond the other side 24; a bolt 26 joins the sides so that they can be pulled together to clamp the lug to the operating shank. The side 23 has the hole 25 through which the hook end of the link passes. The other end portion of the link is cranked and passes through a hole in the handle part 5. The handle part comprises a hand piece 6 and two plates 9 which sandwich an extension 10 of the hand piece; the handle pivot is a bush which is received in registering holes in the plates 9. A mounting bracket 20 and a stabilising arm 19 are connected to the bush by means of a rivit 17, the bracket 20 and stabilising arm 19 connecting the handle part to the door.
