Abstract

1,210,836. Releasable fastenings. HART WELL CORPS. 9 Oct., 1968 [26 March, 1968], No. 47825/68. Headings E2A and E2B. A double lever fastener for securing a panel to a surrounding frame comprises a handle lever 1, connecting means 4 for pivotally connecting said handle lever to a said panel for approximately half-circle movement, a catch lever 5 engageable with a keeper pin 4 in said frame, pivot means 8 pivotally inter-connecting said two levers so that in use after the catch lever is engaged with the keeper pin, the catch lever makes approximately a quartercircle fastening movement during said approximately half-circle fastening movement of said handle lever, and the levers for release of the panel making corresponding reverse movements and holding means (i.e. a trigger lever 16) for holding said handle lever in the fastening position. In the construction shown the catch lever has parallel arms 6 which are joined by a connecting web 9 and the arms are also joined together by a hook end portion 10 which is engageable with the keeper pin. The panel is arranged to drop when the handle lever is swung through the approximate half circle so that the catch lever remains engaged with the keeper pin. The handle lever 1 remote from the pivot 4 is provided with a longitudinal slot and on each side of the slot there are parallel flanges 15 between which is journalled a trigger lever 16 by means of a pivot pin 17; the trigger lever is provided with a hook 19 adapted to engage a retainer pin 20 suitably secured to the panel and to release the handle lever, the trigger lever is pivoted by inserting a tool such as a screw driver or rod into a socket 25 in the trigger lever to rotate it clockwise against the bias of a spring 23. When the handle lever is released the handle lever can 'be rotated clockwise to cause the catch lever to pivot clockwise about the pin 11 after which the panel is lifted slightly and the catch lever disengaged from the pin 11.
