Abstract

1,101,754. Magnetic switches. THOMPSON INDUSTRIES Inc. 4 May, 1965 [11 May, 1964], No. 18672/65. Heading H1N. A thermomagnetic switch for car flasher operation has a cantilever contact spring blade 23, of a material which loses its magnetic permeability upon heating, arranged so that heating current passes along the blade and flux from a permanent magnet 24, having its longest dimension normal to its polar axis, passes across the blade. This enhances the pressure between a contact on the free end of the blade and a fixed contact (Fig. 8, not shown), when attracted by the magnet. The blade may be bowed in section to align with the flux path between polepieces 25, 26 (Fig. 11, not shown), and the magnet may have a blow-out effect on the arc between the contacts (Fig. 10, not shown). The contact carrying free end of the blade may engage a sounder membrane to give audible indication of operation. An electromagnet may replace the permanent magnet.
