Abstract

D - Glucosaccharo - 1,4 - lactone is prepared by oxidizing D-glucose or a polymer thereof with nitric acid to produce an oxidized reaction solution containing D-glucosaccharic acid and then, (a) adjusting the specific gravity of said solution per se or the solution after removal of residual nitric acid therefrom to the range 1.52-1.60 and seeding crystals of the lactone in the solution to crystallize the lactone, or (b) treating the said solution per se, or the solution after the removal of residual nitric acid, or the solution after crystallization of the said lactone, with anion exchange resin, adjusting the specific gravity of said resin-treated solution at the range 1.45-1.55 and seeding crystals of the lactone in the solution to crystallize the lactone.
