Abstract

1,101,684. Collectors. AFRO-MOTIVE MANUFACTURING CO. 5 March, 1965, No. 9535/65. Heading H2E. A collector ring assembly 10 for connecting a stationary electrical source to conductors 40 carried on a drum 34 of an electric cord reel assembly 33 comprises a plurality of annular insulating members 11 each having a cylindrical body with a central opening and an annular flange 18 and held together end-to-end by co-operating annular projections (16, Fig. 3) and recesses (17) on opposite end faces thereof. The cylindrical body of each annular member 11 is encircled by a copper ring 19. The drum 34 is mounted on and rotates with a hollow shaft 32 secured to an end annular member 24 of the assembly 10, and the conductors 40 are threaded through the shaft 32 and connected to conductors 23 that are threaded through openings (14, Fig. 4) in the annular members 11 and thence connected to the conducting rings 19 (see Fig. 5). An annular flange 44 and a ring 56 forming part of a bearing assembly 43 mounted on the cord reel housing 35 encircle end annular members 24, 25 and are connected by rods 46, (47), 48, (49) supporting conducting brushes 63, (64, Fig. 6). The brushes 63 are connected to conductors 77 (Fig. 6), that lead to the electric source.
