Abstract

1,101,535. Bearings. INA NEEDLE BEARINGS Ltd. 9 April, 1965 [22 May, 1964], No. 21176/64. Heading F2A. In a mounting for a bearing, a truncated spherical-shaped housing 1, Fig. 2, has a bore 3 therethrough, is supported by a seating 16 of a lower strap 15 and is clamped to the seating by a strap 17. In an embodiment, a roller bearing has an outer race 5 mounted in the bore 3 of the housing 1, needles 7 located by a cage 6 or by inwardly-projecting portions of the outer race 5, and is sealed by flexible members 14 retained by annular thrust members 10. Each member 10 has an axially-extending part 11 engaged in a rebated end portion 12 of the bore 3 and has a radially inwardly extending portion 13 which engages an adjacent collar or shoulder (not shown) on the shaft so as to axially locate the latter. In modifications, the bore 3 serves as an outer race and the straps 15 and 17 are replaced by vertically-disposed straps 20 and 21, Fig. 8.
