Abstract

1,101,503. Preventing leakage on ships. M. MURPHY; P. MURPHY; G. MURPHY; J. MURPHY and J. MURPHY. 3 May, 1965 [1 July, 1964], No. 18598/65. Headings B7M and B7S. [Also in Division E1] In a ship or boat a guard for preventing the entry or passage of water, e.g. for protecting the lower portion of a door or window 9 from flood water infiltrating through the interstices between the closure member 9 and frame 8 comprises a rigid plate 1 of aluminium provided on its peripheral edges to contact the frame and floor with a preferably semi-circular sectioned recess in which is housed an inflatable tubular or other resilient sealing member 3 which seals between the plate 1 and the opposing surfaces 8 of the architrave, the top of the plate being provided with a flange or web 6 the ends of which contact abutment pieces 7 on the architrave 8 to keep the plate in position against the floor 11 when the sealing tube is inflated. The top edge of the plate closes the ends of the recess to prevent upward movement of the resilient or inflated sealing member 3. Solid rigid plates may be provided as bearing surfaces on the architrave surfaces and lower corners and floor confronting the sealing member.
