Abstract

1,101,433. Bearings. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. 3 June, 1965 [6 March, 1964], No. 9681/64. Heading F2A. In a gas bearing, glass bushes are resiliently mounted in a radial direction. In an embodiment, glass bushes 2, having a hardened steel shaft therebetween, are resiliently supported in a housing 5 by rubber 0-rings 3 which are positioned in grooves 4 of the housing. Pressurized fluid is supplied through passages 6 in the housing 5 to chambers formed between respective pairs of 0-rings. The length of each bush should not exceed its diameter. The journals of the steel shaft may be as hard as the glass bushes.
