Abstract

1,101,214. Photographic developing apparatus. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Jan. 20, 1966 [Feb. 3, 1965; March 17, 1965], No. 2600/66. Heading G2A. Apparatus 18 for developing photographic film by passing ammonia under pressure across film surface 17 comprises a seal plate 19 having a diffuser plate 16 placed in a cavity therein and a closure platen 22 which presses an inserted film tightly against the seal plate 19. Ammonia under pressure is fed by a valve 32 to a hole 28 in the base of the plate 19 and from there it flows as indicated, forcing the trapped air before it into a reservoir 15. In another embodiment, Figs. 1, 2 (not shown), the trapped air is forced into a reservoir (11) between a metal seal (2) and an elastomer seal (3). In a further embodiment, Figs. 5-7 (not shown), a three way solenoid valve (110) controls the feeding of ammonia from a store to a development cavity (114), and after development, to exhaust the ammonia out of the development platen into an absorber (115). A fluid other than ammonia may be used.
