Abstract

110,087. Crawhall, S. N., and Mathys, G. A., (trading as Hyslop & Co, A.). Feb. 5, 1917. Cutting vegetables &c.-The shredding-knives of a machine for shredding vegetables, in which vegetables are fed from a hopper against shredding-knives 10 and a slicing-knife 7 mounted close to the edges of a gap 6 in a rotating disk carrier 1, are arranged to be individually removable for replacement. The knives 10 are mounted in slots in a holding plate 8 secured to the carrier 1, the slots being formed approximately tangential to the path traced by the knives. The plate 8 is arranged to project slightly beyond the edge of the carrier 1, the slots being formed in a ridge 9 projecting upwards and outwards from the plate. Recesses are cut in the lower part of the knives to permit them to pass over the projecting portion of the plate 8 and to bear against the edge of the carrier as shown in Fig. 6. The knives are clamped in position by clamping-plates 12 provided with an inclined edge 14 bearing against a similar edge on the plate 8 so that, when the securing bolts are tightened, the knives are drawn inwards against the edge of the carrier. Other forms of recesses in the knife blades co-operating with clamping-plates are described.
