Abstract

1,100,868. Transistor mixer circuits; waveband switching. INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORPORATION. 29 July, 1966 [30 July, 1965], No. 34208/66. Headings H3Q and H3T. A self-oscillating mixer stage for U.H.F. and V.H.F. reception comprises a common-base transistor whose collector is coupled to the I.F. circuits by a coil having a low impedance at I.F. and shunted by a resistor, the oscillator inductors on the V.H.F. band also being connected to the collector and presenting an impedance to I.F. at least comparable with the impedance of said coil. In the figure, the transistor 5 is a common-base self-oscillating mixer, the output being taken from the collector via inductor 11 shunted by resistor 12; coil 13 is tuned to the I.F. by capacitor 9 which also couples the oscillator tuned circuits to the transistor. The I.F. circuit is completed by coil 14. In the U.H.F. position of the wavechange switch (as shown) the oscillator circuit comprises the line 7 tuned by capacitors 8, 31, 32, and the R.F. input is coupled to line 6. In the V.H.F. Band III position the oscillator circuit is 19, 22 and the line 7 with capacitors 8 and 21 are shunted across this to form part of the tuning capacitance. The R.F. input is from circuit 18. In the V.H.F. Band I position the oscillator coil is 26 tuned by capacitors 8, 28, and the R.F. input is via circuit 25. The oscillation-maintaining capacitor 10 has a higher impedance at I.F. than has any of the R.F. circuits so that no special measures are necessary to exclude the I.F. from the R.F. circuits. An extra capacitor 30 is brought in to increase the positive feedback on Band I. The output impedance at I.F. is the same on all the ranges. Coil 19 may be tapped in the same way as coil 26.
