A chain for a rotary kiln comprises a plurality of connected circular links 16, the inner transverse surface 18 of each link being convex and having a radius of curvature substantially equal to one half the inner diameter of the link. Two similar concave surfaces 22 are formed in each link, extending inwardly from the outer periphery thereof.
