Abstract

1,100,784. Cams. ARMSTRONG CORK CO. 12 July, 1965 [24 July, 1964], No. 29532/65. Heading F2K. [Also in Division B5] In a closure lining machine (see Division B5), a liner shaping cylinder 31 comprises a body 80 rotatable about a rod 40 to the upper end of which cam plates 94, 95 are attached. The facing surfaces of the cam plates 94, 95 form circular roller tracks which are recessed over 180 degrees of their path, Fig. 11 (not shown). Cam follower rollers 91, mounted in the top ends of pistons 86, engage the cam plate 95, whilst rollers 93, connected to the rollers 91 by rods 92, engage the cam plate 94. As the body 80 of the shaping cylinder 31 rotates, the system of cam plates and rollers holds shaping ends 97 of each piston 86 for one half a revolution in engagement with liner material in the closures. During this period the liner is shaped and cooled, whilst during the second half of the revolution the cam plates 94, 95 allow the pistons 86 to reciprocate upwards away from the closures. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 805,022.
