Abstract

1,100,695. Ratchet clutches; reverse gear. OKAMURA MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. 14 Nov., 1966, No. 50989/66. Headings F2C and F2D. [Also in Division A4] A wheeled sweeper comprising a dust collector 2 is provided with a cylindrical brush 7 which is so connected by gears and clutch arrangements to the wheels 4, 5 that irrespective of the direction of movement of the sweeper over a surface to be cleaned the cylindrical brush 7 is unidirectionally rotated to direct dust via a rubber scoop 8 to the dust collector 2. The brush 7 is mounted on a shaft 11 (Fig. 2) on the ends of which are freely mounted drums 13a and 13b which are provided with gears 17, 19, the gear 17 being in driving engagement with an idler gear 18 which meshes with a gear 9 attached to the wheel 4 and the gear 19 being in direct driving engagement with a gear 10 attached to the wheel 5. Inside the drums 13a, 13b are mounted ratchet wheels (12a, 12b), (Figs. 3 to 5, not shown) which are attached to the shaft 11 and which, in accordance with the direction of rotation of the wheels 4, 5, are alternately drivingly connected to their respective drums 13a, 13b for rotational movement therewith and to ensure unidirectional rotation of the shaft 11 to which the brush 7 is attached. The driving connection is effected by means of rollers (14) which are acted upon by stud and spring arrangements (15, 16). The sweeper may be manually or power operated and may be provided with an additional brush 6.
