Abstract

1447842 Floor sweepers; rotary brushes LEIFHEIT INTERNATIONAL GUNTER LEIFHEIT GmbH 2 Oct 1974 [2 Oct 1973] 42792/74 Headings A4F and A4K A floor sweeper includes a drive train connecting a sweeping brush 15 with a runner wheel 16 which incorporates mechanical energy storage means so that when the sweeper is stopped the brush continues to rotate at least for a short time. As shown, energy is stored in a helical spring 31 between a hollow shaft 21 and the body 23 of the brush 15. In this form the drive through the spring is only effective in one direction (generally the forward motion of the sweeper) but another embodiment has two spiral springs of which one is effective in each direction. The brush 15 may be an edge brush mounted on a sweeper incorporating a main brush 10 and the drive housing 17 may be mounted in horizontal bearings 30 which permit a slight pivoting which ensures that dirt is swept inwardly towards the main brush.
