Abstract

A flexible drive for a rail vehicle axle consists of a tube a concentric with the axle, the right hand end being driven by the traction motor through a gear pinion h while the other end is connected with the wheel d through a cardan joint comprising four equally spaced ball and socket pins e, e 1 passing through openings in the wheel disc. A pair of ring members c, c 1 are mounted on opposite sides of the wheel and one pair e of opposite pins connect the rings to a plate b at one end of tube a, the other pair of pins e 1 connecting the rings to the wheel disc, Fig. 4 (not shown). The right hand end of tube a is connected to drive pinion h by pairs of triangular plates b 1 , g coupled by six pins e through arc-shaped members i, i l . The sockets for pins e, e 1 have resilient linings f.
