A storage container or bin, of generally rectangular form comprises a bin 10 secured at its upper end to a rectangular frame 14 the corners of which are reinforced by corner members 15 incorporating lifting hooks 16. At the lower end of the bin 10 is secured a hopper and valve arrangement 11. The base of the bin 10 comprises two inverted channel members 12, each with side walls of unequal depth which form guide slots for the forks of a fork lift truck. A lid 18 with lifting handles 19 is provided. The arrangement is such that a bin will stack on another identical bin. A captive lid may be provided, Fig. 4 (not shown). The valve arrangement 11 may be of known form operated by a control member projecting from one side of the bin. In a modification shown in Fig. 3 the hopper outlet is by way of a partspherical valve sealing on one or more resilient washers 27. The valve member is guided by three vertical pins 29 and is operated by a lever gear 30 with a handle 33. The valve is locked shut during transit by an adjustable hook 32. A rubber dustbin lid 37 has a disc 38 of sheet steel fixed inside it to form a lid. In a further modification shown in Fig. 7 a circular bin has an outlet valve which comprises a pivoted operating handle 57 co-operating with a bar 60 having a number of stop holes 61 in it at any of which the handle 57 may be fixed in position. In a further modification shown in Figs. 10 and 11 a hopper 56 has two shedders 84 of inverted V-section disposed at right-angles so as to leave four spaced apertures 85 of quadrant shape leading out of the hopper 56. Four shutters 87 are mounted on an X-shaped lever assembly 88 pivoted on a stud 89 to constitute closures for the apertures 85 and are operated by an arm extending to the side of the bin.
