Abstract

1,100,489. Coating apparatus. H. BRECHNER. 6 June, 1966 [15 June, 1965], No. 25055/ 66. Heading B2L. [Also in Division B6] Sheets 10, Fig. 3, perforated along one edge are assembled in overlapping relationship on a table 20 by means of a row of pins 40 spaced similarly to the perforations, the pins 40 being carried by a bar 37 movable downwardly to withdraw the pins after a set of sheets has been assembled. After each sheet, except the last of a set, has been positioned on the pins 40, spots of adhesive are applied thereto by means of a device comprising an adhesive-containing casing 80, Fig. 7, a base-plate 87 with a number of nozzles 92, and a needle-valve 95 for each nozzle. Holes 106 are provided in the baseplate 87 to allow the ends of the pins 40 to enter a groove 98 in the casing 80 when the device is placed over a sheet. The needle valves are moved upwardly by the sheets so that spots of adhesive are applied to the top sheet, and the plate 87 presses the sheets together. Another row of holes 110 is provided in the base plate and this row is engaged with the pins 40 when the last sheet of a set is in position so that the plate 87 exerts pressure on the assemblage. In this situation, the needle valves 95 are received in a groove, shown in Fig. 7, in the plate 27 and are not opened.
