Abstract

The dyelightfastness of polyesters is improved by incorporating into them manganous terephthalate in an amount of 0.01 to less than 0.1% by weight. The manganous terephthalate may be incorporated at any stage but is preferably added to the initial reactants used in the manufacture of the polyester. Colour stabilizers, preferably polyphosphonate and phosphite -polyphosphate compounds may also be incorporated. In examples an ester interchange reaction was effected between dimethyl terephthalate, ethylene glycol, methoxypolyethylene glycol (M.W. 2000) and pentaerythritol in the presence of zinc acetylacetonate and manganous terephthalate, titanium dioxide was then added and the reaction mixture was polycondensed to a fibre-forming polymer.
