Abstract

A non-transformer electric soldering gun comprises a longitudinally divided handle having a front wall and a rear wall and being formed of two parts 1a, a stem tube 2 passing through an aperture in the front wall of the handle with its inner end adjacent the rear wall of the handle, a tubular heating element 5 supported by the outer end of the stem tube to receive the soldering tip 3, a series loading resistance 6 within the stem tube and at least one support member 12 in each handle part 1a to locate the stem tube in the handle. The tip 3 is pushed on a tube 4 containing the heating resistance and soldered or welded to the stem tube 2. In each handle half the support members 12 are in the form of half rings so that when the handle is assembled the tube 2 is clamped therein. One handle half has raised internal fins to provide passages for the electrical feed wires for the heating element and forward extensions on the handle parts, each in the form of a quarter cylinder form together a thermal screen 13a beneath the stem tube. The handle parts are made of plastic material.
