Abstract

[Also in Division B8] In a potato separating machine the crop is fed via a hopper 1 on to a feed conveyor 3 which conveys it, while providing for separation of the soil therefrom, to a riddle device 4 in the form of a travelling slatted endless chain conveyor which separates the seed potatoes from the larger size potatoes or ware so that they become disposed at different locations, a delivery conveyor extending from one of the locations. Delivery conveyors 8, 11, Fig. 2, may be provided for the ware and the seed respectively. Alternatively, the ware conveyor is dispensed with and the machine is adapted for delivering ware direct to an elevator conveyor. The machine is mounted on castor wheels. The conveyor 3 is inclined and fixed while the conveyors 8, 11 are adjustable in height by means of line and pulley means, e.g. as shown at 9, 10 for conveyor 8. The conveyor may be of the apron chain slatted form. The chain conveyor forming the riddle device 4 has an upper loop 5 overlying a hopper 6 with sloping sides and a lower outlet. Under the outlet is a lower lap of the conveyor 4 and, under this, one end of the seed conveyor 11.
