Abstract

1,099,936. Bearings. POLLARD BEARINGS Ltd. Dec. 15, 1965 [Dec. 31, 1964], No. 52956/64. Heading F2A. In a ball or roller-bearing, a seal 4 of resilient material is forced past a front flank 14 of an annular groove 13, which is formed in an outer race 2, so that a biased, or angularly offset, lip 12 of the seal can spring into engagement with the front flank 14 so as to hold the seal in the bearing. The lip 12 may be of uniform thickness and may be curved at its periphery to facilitate engagement with the front flank 14. The seal, having a base 11, may be urged into engagement with a rear flank 15 of the groove 13; may have a reinforcing-ring 6 retained by a step 7 and a shoulder 10; and may have an extension 8 in engagement with an inner race 1.
