Abstract
1,099,692. Gauging devices. NEWALL ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. and M. E. Saxby. Jan. 31, 1966 [Feb. 1, 1965], No.4322/65. Heading G1M. A gauging device comprises a jaw block 10 with a pair of fixed jaws 11 forming a wedge-shaped opening for engaging opposite sides of a cylindrical workpiece, and an air tube 12 projecting from the jaw block into the opening between the jaws, the projecting end having a nozzle facing the surface of the workpiece and means 13 for enabling the position of the air tube to be adjusted in a direction into and out of the opening between the jaws. The position of the air tube may be adjusted by freeing a cotten 13 mounted transversely to the air tube. The air tube communicates through a block 19 with an air inlet 20 connected through a comparator with a dial gauge to an air source Fig. 5 (not shown). The jaw block is mounted on a yoke 21 by rods 22 slidably mounted in said yoke, the yoke and jaw block being kept apart by springs 23. When the cylindrical workpiece is in position between the jaws 11, air under pressure is applied through the air tube 12 and depending on the distance of the workpiece from the nozzle, a variable pressure is obtained in the comparator. Depending on the air pressure attained a diaphragm in the comparator is moved to give a reading on a dial indicator and/or to operate a switch when a predetermined pressure is attained.
