Abstract

Ropes made from polyolefine filaments or fibres have a non-drying vegetable oil distributed through their structure. The rope may be of linear polyethylene or polypropylene, for example stereoregular polypropylene. The oil may have a viscosity of up to 1500 centipoises at 25 DEG C, peanut oil and olive oil being examples, and the finished rope may comprise 2 to 5% by weight of said oil based on the weight of the rope. The oil may contain one or more antioxidant stabilising substances and may also contain up to 0.5% by weight of another lubricant based on the weight of the rope. By non-drying vegetable oil is meant an oil which does not readily undergo antoxidation to sticky polymeric products.
