Abstract
A sintered sparking plug electrode or electrode tip is made from a powder consisting of Ru or a Ru - Ir alloy, the powder particles having a size of 1 to 76 microns (-200 mesh B.S.) and a particle size distribution of 20-35% by weight from 10 micron to 20 micron and 30-50% by weight from 20 micron to 30 micron. The Ru - Ir alloy may contain up to 10% Ir, the powder is compacted to 54-68% of theoretical density, sintered in an inert or reducing atmosphere at 1500 DEG -1600 DEG C., repressed and then resintered at 1500 DEG -1600 DEG C. Prior to pressing the powder is dried at 120 DEG C.
