Abstract

1,099,273. Laminating. REGAL PACKAGING Ltd. Feb. 18, 1966 [Feb. 27, 1965], No. 8559/65. Heading B5N. Corrugated paper board is made by contacting one face of an uncoated corrugated web against a liner coated with thermoplastic material which has been heated to render it adhesive, and allowing the coating to set whilst the web and liner are in contact. A second coated liner may likewise be adhered to the other face of the corrugated web. The liner may be pre-heated by a heated roller and further heated by a second roller which also presses it against the web whilst the latter is in the process of being corrugated by a fluted roller. The single-faced board may then be collected on a belt and fed to a second set of rolls which heat and press on a second liner, the resultant double-faced board then being slit, or cut into sheets. Suitable thermoplastic coatings are polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, an acrylic resin, sealing wax, a microcellular wax, or bitumen and application may be by rollers. The coating is preferably continuous to provide an impervious barrier against water or water vapour.
