[Also in Division F2] A bearing race 8, Figs. 1 and 4, is rolled between a pair of main rolls 1 and a supporting internal roll 5, so that the race is expanded until its periphery abuts rollers 18, which have been adjusted so as to lie on a circle d<SP>1</SP> corresponding to the required outer diameter of the finished race, the surface of the race being finished to a true form by further rolling, whilst maintaining the outer diameter of the race constant. Rolls 1 are inclined to each other and their lower portions are butted together to form the required cross section of Fig. 1 or Figs. 5a, 5b, 5c or 5d (not shown). Roll 5 is carried on a stub shaft, the shaft being mounted in a first bearing support 3, and a second bearing support 4, movable relative to bearing support 3 by a piston 20. Rollers 18 are mounted in support 3 for engagement by screws 15, Fig. 3, and the support is movable relative to rolls 1 by a piston 13. A further supporting roller 19 is mounted on the piston rod of a cylinder 24. In operation, with bearing support 3 lowered, a race blank 8 is placed over roll 5, and support 4 is moved up to support the stub shaft. Rollers 18 are adjusted to the finished race diameter and support 3 is moved up, so that blank 8 is engaged by rolls 1. Roller 19 is moved up to blank 8, rolls 1 and 5 are rotated to stretch the blank, and roller 19 is retracted as the blank diameter increases. The blank is expanded until the periphery of race 8 abuts rollers 18, and further rolling does not increase the race diameter but produces smooth surfaces on the race.
