[Also in Division G3] In a timer (see Division G3) an alarm actuating mechanism comprises a member 36 which operates switch contacts 32, 34 to switch on the alarm which, for example, may comprise a radio. A resilient arm 30, carrying at its free end opposed switch contacts 32, is biased to prevent engagement of the contacts 32, 34. When a selector knob 88 is in its third or automatic position and cams 24<SP>1</SP> on an hours hand gear 24 and 26<SP>1</SP> on an alarm gear 26 have not engaged, the member 36, biased by a spring 52, is located in the position shown in Fig. 4 with a shoulder 42 preventing the switch contact 32 touching the U-shaped contact 34. When the cams 24<SP>1</SP>, 26<SP>1</SP> engage, the gear 24 is moved backwards to deflect a finger 50 of the member 36, thereby allowing the member to move sideways and the contacts 32, 34 to engage. The radio may be manually switched off by turning the knob 88 to its centre position, an arm 90 thereof abutting a shoulder 44 of the member 36 so that the shoulder 42 prevents engagement of the switch contacts. In the first position of the knob 88 the shoulder 42 pushes the contact 32 against the left-hand side of the U-shaped contact 34 to manually switch on the radio. A detent on an arm 92 of the knob 88 engages depressions 94 in each of the three switch positions.
