Reciprocating sieves.-Jigging conveyers and screens are operated by a crank or arm on a uniformly-rotating shaft driving an eccentric disk rotating on a fixed boss eccentric to the driving- shaft, the eccentric strap and rod being coupled to the trough. In a modification, a uniformlyrotating pulley operates a crank mounted on a shaft slightly eccentric to the pulley centre, and the trough is reciprocated by eccentrics on this shaft. As shown in Fig. 1, a conveyer trough or screen is reciprocated by a rod 23 secured to the strap 18<a> of an eccentric 18 rotating on a fixed boss 13a. The eccentric is rotated with a variable angular velocity by a link 20 and a crank 19 secured to an uniformly-rotating drive shaft 16. A second trough is operated from the shaft 16 by a crank arm displaced 180‹ from the arm 19, and operating an eccentric also displaced 180‹. The second trough conveys material in the same direction as the first or in the opposite direction, according as the centres of the fixed bosses 13<a> are on the same or opposite sides of the centre of the driving-shaft 16. The shaft 16 is supported in a block 13 on which the bosses 13a are formed. Each trough is supported on rollers and may be driven by a pair of rods 23 jointed to it on opposite sides. Fig. 5 shows a speed diagram for one of the troughs, ordinates representing trough velocities, and abscissae displacements. In a modification shown in Fig. 7, the eccentrics are driven from the shaft 16 by crank arms 49 sliding between lugs 47 on the eccentrics. In another arrangement shown in Fig. 11, an uniformly-rotating pulley 40 imparts a variableangular velocity to a shaft 36 by a pin 44 mounted between parallel spokes of the pulley and linked to a pin 43 projecting from each side of a crank 41, the pins 43, 44 being thus in double shear. The troughs are operated by eccentrics on the shaft 36. The pulley 40 has two sets of spokes and two hubs mounted on separate bosses 38. The crank 41 is mounted between the hubs and is secured to the shaft 36 which passes eccentrically through the bosses 38.
