Abstract

[Also in Division G4] An electromagnetic indicator for indicating the position of a switch comprises a spherical body 5 pivotally mounted on an axis 50 in a casing 1 so that it may be pivoted from the neutral position shown to either of two indicating positions. Body 5 is divided into two visually distinguishable halves 51, 52 visible through a transparent hood 4 of easing 1. Permanent magnets 510, 520 are provided in body 5. Casing 1 is mounted on the operating pin 20 of a push button switch 2 and houses an electromagnet consisting of a coil arrangement 12 and a soft iron core 11 provided with a transversely inserted permanent magnet 13. Coil arrangement 12 comprises two oppositely acting coils W1, W2, Fig. 4, capable of being connected by change-over contacts K of switch 2 and by conductor lines C1, C2 respectively with one pole of a mains voltage rectifier 3 depending on the position of pin 20. If the apparatus to which the switch indicator is connected is inoperative the permanent magnet 13 will act, through a soft iron ring 40 in casing 1, on magnets 510, 520 to retain the indicator in the neutral position shown. When the apparatus is operating the polarity of core 11 depends on which of the two magnetic coils W1, W2 is connected by change-over switch contacts K to one pole of rectifier (3) and consequently which portion 51, 52 is turned toward core 11.
