Abstract

1,098,096. Lasers. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE. July 18, 1966 [July 19, 1965], No. 32265/66. Heading H1C. A laser, including laser crystal 10 and cavity mirrors 2, 13, includes a Fabry-Perot interferometer comprising partially reflective surfaces 8, 9, one of which is movable to vary the Q of the main cavity. Dielectric mirror 8 is mounted on a glass plate 7 carried by a magnetostrictive or electrostrictive cylinder 5. Transmission of radiation through the interferometer 8, 9 depends on the spacing of the interferometer reflectors which is controlled by transducer 5 to provide either pulsed operation or modulated continuous operation.
