Abstract

1,097,828. High voltage insulator. CENTRAL ELECTRICITY GENERATING BOARD. Oct. 11, 1966 [Oct. 19, 1965], No. 44294/65. Heading H2C. An insulator of the type comprising an inner supporting rod 10 secured to end caps 11 surrounded by a cylindrical porcelain shield 12 with sheds 13 has the space between these filled with a solid gel-like material 14 which is oil impregnated and which exudes oil so as to fill any voids inside the insulator thus preventing ingress of air or moisture which could lead to electrical breakdown. The shield may be pre-stressed in compression to compensate for relative movement between rod and shield, or flexible seals may be used.
