Abstract

953,575. Insulators. J.-L. GRATZMULLER. Oct. 3, 1961 [Oct. 18, 1960], No. 35596/61. Heading H2C. A supporting insulator for electrical equipment comprises a tubular outer shell 2 of insulating material having a high compression strength and at least one elongated insulating element 7 in the form of a resin bonded glassfibre tube having vents 13, 13a extending through the shell and being anchored to a base member 1 and a top member 6 so as to maintain the outer shell 2 in compression when flexing of the column takes place owing to side forces such as wind. The tensile element 7 preferably carries tension adjusting means 11. The outer shell 2 is of ceramic and is preferably porcelain and as shown is made in sections with plastics seals 5 between them. The insulator is preferably filled with a solid or liquid insulating material and may embody a central oil conduit for supplying the electrical equipment. In this case a plurality of tensile elements 7 are equally spaced around the conduit.
